Twice a year, once in the Spring and again in the Fall, the Triad showcases newly constructed homes in The Parade of Homes. This biannual event provides a great opportunity to see the work of leading builders as well as top designers and skilled craftsmen. Even if you are not in the market for a new home right now, this self-guided tour is a fantastic way to see the latest trends in design, color, finishes, and home technology.
Here are the top 5 trends of this year’s Fall Parade of Homes:
White Still Reigns Supreme – White kitchens have been the go-to popular choice for years now, and it is not going anywhere anytime soon. White continues to be the all-time favorite, regardless of style, in everything from farmhouse to contemporary designs. Occasionally a black, blue, or wood island is thrown in for a little pizzazz, but for the most part, kitchens remain white.

Lighting that Makes a Statement – Move over builder grade. These light fixtures are all about making a statement. Seen in every finish including wood, black, and brass, these big, bold, and even glittery accessories are full of personality. It is no wonder that with all of the big-ticket items like cabinetry and countertops remaining in the safe zone of color neutrality, homeowners are now longing to add in a little wow.
Elegant Bathrooms – Master bathrooms continue to get the spa treatment and are all about sophistication and elegance. Large walk-in showers, separate soaking tubs, beautiful tiles in varying patterns, and stylish light fixtures create stunning retreats. Of course, do not forget about the expansive master closets that usually adjoin the master bath. These vast rooms are complete with wall to wall custom built-in shelving, window seats, and even islands!
Patterned Tile – While subway is still going strong, and most likely will continue to be popular, you now have your choice of patterns, textures, and sheen. Tile has seen a renaissance in the last couple years and is now available in hand painted designs, in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, to look like wood or natural stone, and is even available with dimensional patterns. Want to try out one of the new fun tile designs but a little hesitant? Try using an unusual shape like a hexagon in a neutral color like white or rather, arranging subway tile in a pattern like herringbone.

Architectural Feature Walls – Wall paneling is one of the hottest trends in home building. These creative feature walls are not only visually pleasing but elevate the overall level of design of the space.&n; There is a paneling style to suit every home from traditional wainscoting to more contemporary designs like geometric patterns. But wait! Paneling isn’t just for walls anymore, it is popping up on the ends of islands, fireplaces, and even on ceilings!
