Building Inspiration

Walk into a Shea home and you’ll notice something is distinctly and qualitatively different from other new houses. You may not be able to identify just what is drawing you in, but you’ll want to stick around and figure it out. It may be the company’s dedication to incorporating on-trend West Coast designs into their floorplans, or their attention to the smallest of details. Something less direct but just as important about Shea may be coming across. For instance, 4th-generation members of the Shea family are very present and invested in the daily operations of the company and will oftentimes meet clients in the process of designing or building their home. Another example: Shea employees love working for the company. Many have been with Shea Homes for over a decade. The employees and owners of Shea Homes love their company and their work, which certainly factors into the positive first impression their homes will have on you.

Shea Homes - Kitchen

Shea Home’s two Triad communities, Summerhill and McNairy Pointe, are across the street from one another, but each has its own characteristics, illustrating the builder’s unique ability to serve a variety of tastes in a single location. To be absolutely fair, Shea made this task a little easier by selecting an outstanding location in the first place. North Greensboro is an incredibly popular choice, only four miles from the shops, restaurants and grocery stores of North Elm Shopping Center. Furthermore, the natural beauty of the site is underlined by two scenic lakes: Lake Jeanette and Lake Townsend, which provide opportunities for kayaking and sailing along with hiking over trails with splendid views.

In its Summerhill community, Shea Homes has coupled a rural setting with an outstanding recreation center, complete with swimming pool with a splash area for children, a cabana, and giant umbrellas for relaxation. It’s where Summerhill residents can relax in their very own corner of paradise. An accumulation of such amenities is difficult to find in the Triad, another reason Shea has provided these for Summerhill homeowners.

The homes in Summerhill offer a welcome retreat after a long day at the office. Shea’s 14 floorplans provide an astonishing variety of choices. Most plans have a flex room which the owner can have completed as a home office, a formal dining room, or an extra bedroom. The one-story floor plans, another rarity in design, can add a half-story to serve as a loft. All of the two-story floorplans include an extra living space which can be an upstairs rec room or Bonus room.

Just across Air Harbor Road in the McNairy Pointe neighborhood, Shea Homes doubles down on the natural quietness of the area. A majority of the homesites are wooded, backing up to a canopy of mature trees. All homes have four-sided brick exteriors and the same level of flexibility that the builder offers in all of its communities. Each floorplan includes a flex living space similar to the plans in Summerhill; all plans offer the option of a three-car side-entry garage.

Finally, there are several opportunities for a walk-out basement site which can create additional living space or serve as a spacious storage area. Meanwhile, Shea is in the final phase of construction for McNairy Pointe, so prompt action is necessary if you are interested.

Shea Homes - Kitchen

Regardless of where they build, homebuyers who contract with Shea have the opportunity to personalize their home in the builder’s state-of-the-art Design Center. Recently remodeled, the center has 3,900 square feet of samples of every possible amenity a homebuyer might seek. Shea wants clients to understand and appreciate how potential combinations will look as they examine a remarkable array of samples. An important aspect of the design experience is the way all elements under consideration are gathered in “creation stations” which allow the new homeowner to imagine how each element would fit in their new home.

Shea has organized every design session to progress in a logical manner. Following arrival and meeting with their professional Design Consultant, the design appointment begins with a discussion of options for the exterior of the home. Since the elements they choose provide the initial impression visitors receive, it’s obvious that this first impression be carefully addressed.

Next, the focus is on the kitchen, the heart of a new home. Recognizing that elements in this room are a factor in further decisions affecting the rest of the home, the kitchen plays an elevated role before making other choices. Shea has even dedicated an entire section of the center to several kitchen vignettes, complete with countertops, cabinets, appliances, and backsplashes.

Shea is one of the very few Triad builders offering this experience, structured to fit within a pair of four-hour appointments or, if preferred, one single eight-hour session. Because the studio is located in Charlotte, many Triad clients opt for the full-day appointment, fitting the entire process into a single period. If someone might initially wonder the need to spend over an hour driving to Shea’s Design Center, they appreciate its purpose the moment they walk in the door. Shea’s interior design team works hard to stay abreast of the design market with bi-weekly meetings to discuss current trends and changes that should be made in its product line.

Shea also invites prospective homeowners, who want to see the studio before contracting, to come for a tour scheduled on select Wednesday evenings. During the tour, clients can use the provided worksheet to note specific selections which have attracted their attention. Clients can take their worksheets back to their community sales agent to incorporate these interests into a community-specific floorplan.
